Biking Near the Maxwell

One of many perks of living at The Maxwell includes plenty of biking trails near and around the building. And Arlington, Virginia is a very bike-friendly town. So much so that the city has its very own website devoted to getting around the area on two wheels. If you’re ready to start pedaling and arrive your next destination, use this guide to help you get from A to B.

Finding a Bike

If you don’t have a bike or would rather not deal with the hassle of owning one, check out Capital Bikeshare’s numerous locations all over Arlington. Find a bike you can rent, use and then return it.

Classes

If you’re brand-new to biking or if your skills could use a tune-up (pun intended), consider taking a class through the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. Check out this calendar to see when and where the next class in Arlington will be.

Bike Shops

To shop for a brand new set of wheels or to just stock up on accessories, feel free to visit The Old Bike Shop, Phoenix Bikes or Hudson Trail Outfitters, all located in Arlington. For a list of more stores in the area, please visit bikearlington.com.

Routes and Parks

For a complete list of bike trails all over Arlington, check out this map. The city is home to more than 50 miles of off-street trails. A few highlights include the Four Mile Run Trail. Despite its name, the trail is actually 6.2 miles long. Cyclists should look forward to a scenic, wooden path with many twists, turns and a few short and steep sections.

For a challenging, 10-mile bike ride through many of Arlington’s top sites, consider taking a spin on the “Heart of Arlington” trail. Get to know the city as you speed by highlights including Bluemont Park—another great biking spot—and Alcova Heights Park.

If you’re searching for a scenic trail that follows the Potomac River, consider the Mount Vernon Trail. It starts in Rosslyn and ends at George Washington’s famed home.

The four-mile long Custis Trail (named after historical figure Martha) roughly follows the same path as I-66. Expect a handful of difficult hills in addition to winding turns on this path. If you’re so inclined, you can follow this trail all the way to downtown D.C.

Ballston’s The Maxwell provides complimentary bike storage for all its residents and welcomes bikers. And that’s just one of many perks residents can enjoy. To learn more about this exciting community and to begin the leasing process, contact us today.

Create Your Dream Kitchen with These Appliances

You might think your dream kitchen is just the name of a Pinterest board, but these appliances can bring it to life. And a luxurious apartment at Arlington, Virginia’s The Maxwell deserves fine appliances to match.

Since you can’t prepare a good meal without proper tools, Williams-Sonoma’s seven-piece knife block set is a kitchen essential. These steels knifes are practically indestructible and resist stains. The set features a paring knife, a utility knife, a chef’s knife, a bread knife and a set of stainless-steel sheers. Plus, the light-colored wood block will contrast nicely with the dark brown Maxwell kitchen cabinets.

To make your fall-appropriate pumpkin pie, this glass pan is perfect. If pies aren’t your thing, this heart-shaped cake pan is sure to please–it would make the perfect Valentine’s Day accompaniment without being overly cheesy. For a warm batch of cookies, check out this set of three baking sheets from Bed Bath & Beyond. Since you can’t make cookies or pies without measuring tools, this glass Pyrex measuring cup or this set or heart-shaped measuring spoons will come in handy when you’re whipping up brownies.

If you’re not big on baking you’ll still need pots and pans to whip up your next perfect meal, consider this stainless steel set from Macy’s. You’ll find a stockpot so you can create your next batch of soup. Have fun creating “egg”-ceptional creations in your three omelette pans. Saucepans will give you the chance to show off your mad chef skills as you flip pancakes.

And nothing pairs better with pancakes than coffee. For gourmet coffee, tools like this French press will take your bold roasts to the next level. But if you’d prefer a quicker, but just as tasty brew, look no further than the Hamilton Beech 12-cup coffee maker. If you like the “fancy” drinks at Starbucks—cappuccinos, lattes, gourmet iced coffees, and the like—the Nescafe Dolce Gusto Genio is perfect for you. This functions just like the popular Keurig machines. Just pop a mini-cup in and let it brew.

No kitchen would be complete without the proper wine essentials. You’ll fall in love with Crate & Barrel’s Silhouette Wine Glasses. To store your vino, consider a luxurious wine cellar. These come straight from Rona, the oldest existing Slovakian glass factory. After you’ve moved into to your apartment, you’ll want to toast with some bubbly in this handcrafted Marika Champagne glass.

And your ideal kitchen outfitted with all of the luxe essentials we’ve listed above is waiting for you at Ballston’s The Maxwell. Contact us today to secure your space at this stellar apartment community in the heart of Arlington.

In case you’re not familiar with it, the Metro is D.C.’s biggest public transportation vehicle. You’ll love that it takes you to spots all over Virginia, Maryland and D.C. The Metro can come in handy when you’re catching a flight as it goes straight to National Airport, but it’s also just a great way to explore your surroundings. Follow this guide to soak the best of what these Metro stops—all on the Orange and Silver lines—have to offer.

Tysons Corner

Maxwell residents who love to shop should rejoice at this stop. Recently built, this gives you access to the region’s largest and nicest mall. Courthouse

Arlington’s upscale Clarendon neighborhood is always worth a trip. For starters, some of the city’s top restaurants are located right by this stop. Grab a beer at Galaxy Hut or the Arlington Rooftop Bar & Grill. And if you’re looking for the region’s best beignets or just some really good Cajun-inspired cuisine, head to the Bayou Bakery.

Business Profile: World of Beer

Arlington, Virginia, is brimming with some of the area’s hottest bars, restaurants and shops. Craft beer lovers, or just those looking to try out some new brews, will love what World of Beer is pouring.

World of Beers’ vast list of on top beers on tap is impressive and rotates daily. No, it’s not all hop-heavy offerings. Patrons who enjoy sweeter drinks are in luck. They’ll find Ace Joker Cider all the way from California to Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley-based Bold Rock Virginia Apple. Pumpkin spice fans are also in for a real treat. They’ll find Delaware-based Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale—a full-bodied Brown ale with hints of pumpkin and brown sugar—in addition to Colorado’s Thanksgiving-in-a-drink New Belgium Pumpkin—a pumpkin ale brewed with, what else, pumpkin and cranberries and then aged in oak. And that’s just the start.

If you’re a bigger fan of bottled beer, World of Beer also has an astounding variety of bottles too. If you’ve ever wanted to travel all over the world without leaving Arlington, this is your chance. Sip on beers from Argentina and then head over to Belgium in less time than it takes you to change the channel on your TV. Beer nerds (you know who you are) will appreciate how World of Beer lists the beer’s official style and ABV—that’s alcohol by volume percentage.

But it’s not all just drinks. Patrons can look forward to fine tavern fare too. Enjoy shared appetizers, flatbreads, burgers, sandwiches in addition to main plates and desserts. You’ll enjoy creative fare like Sriracha lime shrimp tacos as much as items like the regional baked crab cakes. Additional highlights include classic bar fare like pretzels, chicken wings, spinach and artichoke dip and seared ahi tuna. To cap it all off, try the beer float or enjoy the classic hot chocolate chip cookie a la mode.

If you’re the type that likes tunes with your brews, check the spot’s calendar before you head out. World of Beer currently hosts live musicians a few times a week. But this restaurant also hosts local breweries and tastings too. If you’re free on Nov. 19, head over to World of Beer to refine your palette as you sample a variety of Allagash beers.

Local businesses like World of Beer are just one more thing to love about Arlington. And if you’re looking for a gorgeous, amenity-filled home that’s in a central location, consider The Maxwell. This stellar property will impress. And when you’re in need of a drink, you can just walk over to World of Beer. Contact us today to discuss leasing at the Maxwell.
